ShedGuide Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 27, 2026

ShedGuide ("ShedGuide," "we," "us," or "our") provides terrain-analysis tools for shed hunters through the ShedGuide mobile application and related services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and disclose it, and the choices available to you.

By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. The contributor license that governs shed-location contributions is a separate agreement and is incorporated into the Terms of Use.

1. Information we collect

Account and authentication information

We collect the email address, provider identifier, and account identifier needed to create and secure your account. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your personal email address. Authentication is provided through Google Identity Platform and Apple.

Precise shed locations and contribution information

When you import or log a shed, we collect its precise coordinates, species classification, state, optional date, source or provenance information, contribution-review status, and terrain features derived from that location. Shed coordinates are required contributions to the restricted training corpus. They are not optional account telemetry.

GPX, KML, KMZ, and CSV files are parsed on your device. Raw import files are not uploaded. Only normalized points that you review and submit are transmitted to ShedGuide.

Private hunting information

We collect private saved-area boundaries, searches and saved map state, offline-download selections, private notes, and your owner-visible shed records so the Service can provide the features you request. These items do not enter the training corpus.

ShedGuide does not collect shed photos in the current version of the Service.

Device, purchase, and service information

We collect push-notification tokens if notifications are enabled, subscription and entitlement status, purchase and restoration events, crash diagnostics, security events, and limited operational information needed to deliver and protect the Service. We do not use Apple's advertising identifier or create a cross-app tracking identifier. Apple processes App Store purchases; RevenueCat helps us verify and synchronize entitlements.

We design ordinary application logs and analytics to exclude precise coordinates, selected areas, map views, offline boundaries, notes, signed artifact URLs, and raw import content.

Location permission

If you grant location permission, the app may access your current precise location while you are using it to center the map or log a shed. ShedGuide does not request background location permission and does not record a continuous route.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • create, authenticate, secure, and support accounts;
  • display your private sheds and areas only to you;
  • deliver entitled maps, prediction surfaces, offline areas, and terrain tools;
  • verify purchases, enforce state access, and administer contributor rewards;
  • review contributions for duplicates, geographic validity, species, provenance, and quality;
  • derive terrain characteristics, train and validate shared mule-deer and elk models, and improve later model releases;
  • detect fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our agreements;
  • provide account export and deletion; and
  • comply with law and enforce our rights.

3. How shared models use locations

Accepted shed coordinates become part of a restricted training corpus. Shared models use terrain characteristics and may use a privacy-gated, smoothed spatial prior. Terrain remains the dominant component. The spatial component is continuous and generalized; it is not an exact-point lookup, nearest-point lookup, user-specific boost, or public location layer. Where the contributor-diversity privacy gate is not met, the model falls back to terrain-only scoring.

New points do not immediately change a member's individual results. They are considered in a later versioned training snapshot and shared model release.

Other members cannot retrieve your precise points, saved hunt areas, searches, or map views. A prediction surface is not a disclosure of the training points used to build it.

4. How we disclose information

We disclose information only as described below:

  • Service providers. Apple, Google Cloud, Google Identity Platform/Firebase Authentication, Mapbox, RevenueCat, Expo, and other vetted vendors process limited information to provide hosting, identity, mapping, purchase verification, app delivery, diagnostics, security, and support.
  • Legal and safety matters. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, enforceable government requests, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud, or secure the Service.
  • Business transactions. Information may transfer in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy and the contributor license.
  • At your direction. We may disclose information when you instruct us to do so.

We do not sell or distribute precise shed coordinates as location data. We do not provide another member with your shed locations or the areas where you hunt. We do not use private saved areas, searches, map views, notes, or offline downloads to train shared models.

5. Retention

We retain operational account data while your account is active and as reasonably needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, comply with law, and maintain business records.

When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the operational account copy of your identity, private areas, searches, saved map state, private notes, offline-package records, owner-visible shed records, and device tokens, subject to limited security, transaction, backup, and legal-retention periods.

Under the contributor license, a restricted licensed training copy of submitted shed coordinates, species, provenance and quality status, acceptance history, and derived terrain features is retained after account deletion. That copy is separated from normal account operations, is not returned in account views or exports after deletion, and remains subject to the confidentiality, security, and no-location-sale commitments in this Privacy Policy and the contributor license.

Backups age out under our normal backup schedule. We may retain minimal records of agreement acceptance, purchase transactions, fraud prevention, and deletion completion when legally or operationally necessary.

6. Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed for sensitive location data, including encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege service accounts, private storage, short-lived map tokens, tenant-isolation controls, audited administrative access, secret management, monitoring, and restricted break-glass access. No security measure is infallible, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

You may access and update certain account information in the app, export your operational account data, restore purchases, manage your App Store subscription, disable notifications, revoke location permission in iOS Settings, or delete your account in the app.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, or information about processing. We will verify requests and respond as required by applicable law. The permanent training license limits deletion of the restricted licensed training copy as described above.

To exercise a privacy right, contact privacy@shedguide.app.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete the operational account information as required by law.

9. International use

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access it from another country, information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. If a change materially affects the contributor license or use of shed coordinates, we will provide prominent notice and obtain any consent required by law or the applicable agreement. The effective date above identifies the current version.
